November 27, 2015: The musical world will be celebrating Helmut Lachenmann’s 80th birthday. Is he a New-Music- Composer, or already a classic? For us with NEOS we say: Yes, he is a classic!

Times have changed when almost all soloists and even whole orchestras refused to play his works, maintining the felt anxious about damaging theirt instruments. In reality they were not used to Lachenmann’s  new music language which asked for unusual playing technics, and a different kind of listening to each other. At that time our former label „col legno“ was a pioneer recording Lachenmann, and a lot of people told us we were crazy.

It was clear to us that we had to release some of his orchestral main works in view of this special occasion. And we are happy to offer two separate Hybrid-SACDs with the famous Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (ranking as number 6 in the world according to Gramophone), and with outstanding soloists (Pierre-Laurent Aimard) and conductors (Jonathan Nott).
